Beginning

My Kennedy Rae of Sunshine has entered the big world of Kindergarten.

Since what you wear says so much about you, she was very picky about her clothes. After a few dramatic episodes over her ensemble, she finally settled on the new Tinkerbell shirt, new jeans and new black shoes.

And even though I tried bribing her to let me curl her hair, she was very adamant about the fact that she wanted her hair "in a ponytail." So be it.

Luckily her school is pretty close to our house, so we walk/skip/run. Whatever.

On the way to school I told her three rules:

1. Listen to your teacher.
2. Be nice to EVERYONE. Even if they're not nice to you.
3. Have fun.

She agreed and repeated them back to me.

She was so ready for this day. She couldn't wait to go through those doors.

The kids put their backpacks away and found their name on the rug.

And the boy she sat next to looks less than thrilled to be sitting next to a girl on the first day of Kindergarten.

Kennedy's first day review:

"The best part about Kindergarten is recess."
"Preschool was more fun because I got to play more."
"The teacher just wants me to do art. But I just want to play."

So overall, she does love Kindergarten and is excited to go every day. That's good. Because in a few years I'm just positive that she'll be faking sick so she can stay home. I'll savor these few "school is awesome!!" years.

But reality struck me when I took her there today- she walked up to the door all by herself. Without me. And she went in the classroom door with all the kids. Without her mama. Her mom. The one she needs no matter what she's doing. . . .

My baby is growing up. Waaahhhhh!

She is so, so sweet - and will love school. Though I can imagine she'll have a few run ins with the teacher when she wants to do her own thing.......

Bittersweet day.

She is so cute! I can't believe she's in Kindergarten! It will be a bittersweet day for us next year when Brad goes. It's hard watching them grow up so fast (but it's fun too!)

Awwww. We had to go through this this year too. You brought tears to my eyes thinking about it. I felt the same way sending my buddy off to experience life on his own. Then Aaron made fun of me. He just doesn't get it. :)

Such a sweet/sad day for a mom! I remember bawling when I watched Griffin climb into the school bus, he was my baby.

Erica was VERY ready for school much like Kennedy, she will do fabulously.

its so hard, but its so good to see them grow into themselves. Yesterday she was your baby, tomorrow she is her own perfect little girl racing her way to being the teenager you cannot even imagine.
and there is nothing that can stop it.
how's that for chipper?

I'm in the "school is awesome!" years.... although there are days.. or weeks where I'd rather stay home faking sick. :) I'm recently excited about my physics class! Yesterday we had a competition to build the tallest and most stable free-standing structure out of paper clips, tape and straws. My partner and I won, We got toe socks! which I'm wearing now.. :D
