The Point

Do you remember watching movies/TV shows as a kid and you think "Wow, that show was so great. I would LOVE to see that now!" And you watch it now.... and realize how dreadfully stupid that show actually is? Smurf's was one of those, for me.

One movie that we watched while growing up was called "The Point." We loved that movie and I remember watching it over and over again. I recently bought it for Kennedy, and I thought it would be great to watch it as a family. And, while it was nostalgic for me, Justin (who had never seen it before) was slightly disturbed. As he was watching it, he said "Uh... I think that whoever wrote this show was on acid." And, come to find out, the man who wrote it (Harry Nilsson) was, oddly enough, tripping on acid when the idea of the movie came to him. Good call, Justin.

Well, just as I did when I was young, Kennedy absolutely LOVES this movie. So much, in fact, that she wants to watch it nearly every day. Yesterday I came home and she had drawn a picture of some of the characters:
(The Rockman, Oblio and his dog, Arrow)

Even though this movie brought back so many memories and is still a fun movie to watch, and it has some great music, it really is quite trippy. Don't do drugs, folks.

This is excellent artwork. It looks exactly like them, especially Arrow. Tell her I said she's done a beautiful job, and want her to draw something for me :)

Yes, totally trippy.

I love this picture. I knew exactly who she was drawing as soon as I saw it. I'm so glad she loves The Point, even if it is a bit trippy.

Do you remember that there was a different father/narrator in the version you grew up on?

I guess it was originally a TV movie - and then later made for video. We tape recorded it from the tv and I believe Alan Thicke was the father. Dustin Hoffman spoke the part in the first broadcast. Really not sure why they went with Ringo Starr for the video version....

Me and my arrow...... doodoodoodoo doodoo doodoodoo....

Fun memories about this show. Hey if drugs can produce shows like this and great music like the Beatles... Okay, I won't go there. Her picture looks great.

I haven't seen the show, but I think she did a nice job on the artwork! It was so fun to talk to both of you yesterday.

that's so funny because i found an episode of the smurfs online one time and i thought it would be so awesome to watch it again. and actually it was so much lamer than i remember. but it was still very nostalgic to watch. As an adult watching it i totally think the writers were on acid when they wrote it too.

It is very true. Sadly there have been more than one of those moments where I have wanted to go back in time and remind myself of the good old shows only to find it strange. Amazing at the things we don't pick up as children. Love the picture. YOu have an artist for sure. Enjoy the daily "Point"
