It's about time.

We bought this house knowing that we'd have to do some work to it. So far we've ripped out the attractive russet-brown, lime green, and cadet blue carpets and have cleaned the hardwood floors which were buried underneath. We still have to do the yard (the backyard, which has a pond that needs to be cleaned out and I'm not excited for the stench that is guaranteed to knock me out), put carpet downstairs, re-finish the hardwood floors (eventually) and take the ugly awnings off the front of the house. And then some. Luckily it has tons of potential and we're loving it.

Before, obviously:

And after (we still haven't put our paintings up, so it's temporarily kinda dull. Sorry):

And we've finally unpacked and cleaned the whole top floor- but I think the only reason we finished that so quickly is because we had Justin's parents over for dinner, and I have to impress the in-laws, of course.

So here are a few more pictures of the house:

I took more, but pictures of the bathrooms and other bedrooms just aren't all that enthralling...

Yesterday was such a nice day (finally), Kennedy and I decided to do some gardening. Well, I did some gardening, she just shuffled dirt around and played with worms. We had fun. But there were so many freaking weeds I thought I was going to die. Luckily I didn't.

Then today was another beautiful day (I'm starting to forgive mother nature for her nasty temper of late), so we played outside with chalk and Kennedy amused me with her many faces.

And she pet the neighbor's kitty.

P.S. I have very nice neighbors. So far 5 of them have come over and welcomed us to the neighborhood. The one to the east of us is a former preschool teacher. I wonder if she'd be keen to babysit. Hm...

And this is my next adventure- downstairs:

... which will probably be finished when I turn 50.

Good luck. I hate moving. This is the first year we have not moved in 7 years. Kennedy is so cute, she looks just like you.

How fun!! I absolutely LOVE moving. I love it all-packing, unpacking, eating pizza and donuts so I don't have to cook! There is something so nice about starting in a new place and putting your personal touch on it! Have fun!

Your house looks sooo cute!
Love Kennedy's room and her little kitchen she is playing at.
Excited for you that you have beautiful wood flooring underneath that old vibrant carpet.
And I love, love, love Kennedy's many faces. She is just adorable, as you well know. :)

Oh, and what a plus to have such good neighbors... and possible future babysitter. :)

What a great house! Congratulations you guys!! What a great bonus to have such friendly neighbors too. That makes such a huge difference. :) I am proud of you for all the hard work you've been doing, it made me tired just reading about it!

Awesome! Congratulations! I totally know where you are coming from with the remodels. I know this home has been easier for us but we have had a couple of crazy out dated ones as well. It's so fulfilling to do that kind of work though, really makes you love it that much more! Good job, you guys ROCK!

Um yeah, we moved into our home three years ago and we still haven't touched the basement which we were suppose to do right after we moved in. We'll probably end up fixing it up right before we move :)

CUTE house and good job and getting so much unpacking done so fast - I am impressed!

Wow! Good job! I'm impressed you have the upstairs all finished. Oh, I don't envy you. It really is such hard work to pack, move, then unpack. It's looking great though. And how fun you get to do yardwork. Seriously! I would love a yard to dig around in.

Congratulations, Ash! I'm so happy you guys have a place to call your own now, that you can tweak and make how you want. It's looking good, and I know you'll make it look even better - especially the garden - you're so good at that.

if you really don't want to unpack, i have a great solution for you... get pregnant, start throwing up and don't stop for NINE STRAIGHT MONTHS. that will put you off duty from working on your basement. it will also make you a slug, so beware. oh and it also brings you another CHILD, and that take some adjusting too.
just a little advice...

Oh man...you are a trooper! Enjoy the room to run, to play, to weed, to "fix up"- Lookin' good though- I have helped plenty of fam "fix up" a place or two including myself. Hmmm don't really miss that part. BUT I am glad you are happy and have friendly neighbors. Have fun!

Oh, Happy Day! You're in! Kennedy's room is so cute. And you'll have a little bit of earth there (okay, maybe a lot of earth requiring a lot of work) and you will be able create a lovely garden and offer tours of the flowers when your mom & grandmother come to visit!

I was hoping for a floor plan. I have to orient myself with maps. So draw one for me. :) What is the room with the cute corner window?

Ashley Rae said...

Kris- believe it or not, I actually drew a floor plan for my mother to see when we first went to look at the house. When I get home from work I'll post it on here :)

Oh- and that room with the corner window is our front room. It lets in so much light! But now we have to worry about curtains or blinds- otherwise, who knows- people might set up camp on our front lawn to watch our TV. lol.
