- You can scan your items as you put them in the cart so it will tell you how much your total is before you get to the check-out line.
- It has a little "GPS" type locator on it so it knows where you are in the store and it will tell you the different sales going on in that aisle.
- It keeps a grocery list on there for you- before you go to the store, you can get online and put your grocery list on some website, and when you get to the store and get your shopping cart, you can put in some username/password and it will pull up your grocery list AND as you scan your items it checks them off the list for you. GOOD for me since I usually either (a) forget to bring my list or (b) get WAY more items than I was planning on because I don't really look at my list.
The big reason for them doing this, of course, is advertising- so you'll get to see tons of advertisements, which we all LOVE. But I don't know- it seems like a pretty good idea. Check out their website here: http://www.mediacart.com/
How will this affect the homeless people and thier shopping carts?...

What is the world coming to?? Amazing. Though I must admit that yesterday when Craig & I were doing our grocery shopping, we thought such a thing would have been enormously helpful. I don't write my grocery list in the order you'd find them on the store shelves. So although we try to look down the list and avoid this, we still we find ourselves going back and forth to aisles we have already been to. So, with our long list yesterday we were longing for some computerized genius to always steer us in the right direction.
I hate grocery shopping, I don't think this new-fangled computery thingy would help my dilemma. I want to order my groceries over the phone and have them unloaded by someone else and put into my cupboards by someone else...I hate the entire experience.
I don't mind grocery shopping if someone else will do the cooking and cleanup.....
I wonder how many stores will invest in these gadgets???
Kris- ya, I do the exact same thing... so maybe this computer-thing could be helpful.
Michelle- lol! Yes, that would be great to have personal grocers.
Mom- oh ya, the only thing I like of those three things (shopping, cooking and cleaning) is the cooking. The only thing I don't like about cooking is the fact that I'll have to clean up when I'm finished. Who wants to clean up after they've sat down to a fabulous, fattening, delicious meal?
