Lessons learned

In case you weren't aware, we just returned from a trip to visit my brother in Costa Rica. While there, I learned a few things. And, being the generous person I am, I will share them with you:

1: You can spit on crocodiles if you're standing on a bridge 30 feet above them and they really don't seem to mind.

2: Sunsets are even more spectacular in person than on camera.

3: Never eat a banana in front of a wild monkey. Unless you like being scared for your life.

These are important lessons to have learned. At least, the monkey/banana one is. I suppose it's a good thing that sunsets are not as glorious on film. It makes us get out and appreciate them in person. About the crocodiles... Well, I'll just keep my distance.

Glad you enjoyed your trip!!

I used to think those monkeys were just plain cute. Now I know better. They are cute in a greedy sort of way, I guess. However, I won't be feeding them anymore bananas. Although, I guess it does make for some funny, albeit a bit scary, memories. :)

My guess is if you didn't know that monkeys are fond of bananas then you probably should stay here in Utah for the rest of your life... for your safety, really. And as a service to you, I will forgo any plans I have made to take all your future vacations in your stead.
You are welcome.

Oh, and thanks for the crocodile tip.

I wish I could go to Costa Rica and learn those lessons! ;) Also... did you bring me back a Mango? No? Bummer. ;) So glad you had such an awesome trip!

Yes, important lessons. Now you know that you can only tease a monkey with bananas if the monkey is in a cage... ...kind of like only making "meow" noises at a jaguar that is behind bars.

Love that you guys got to enjoy a beach sunset.

I would have loved to have brought a mango home, but glad I didn't try. They would have ripped it from my hands in US customs.

I'm so, so glad we were able to all spend time together. It would have been nice anywhere - but in Costa Rica we made some once-in-a-lifetime memories.

I love your posts Ash. Short, but powerful. Great pictures, too. And I have never seen monkeys so angry. I was seriously scared.

Monkeys look so cute and innocent. They're acually very unpredictable. As you now know. About the alligators, I don't think 30 feet is far enough. I'm just sayin...

BTW - who was doing the spitting on the crocodiles? Marie and Kennedy? They sure seemed to be thrilled by their spitting on ferns adventure in monteverde :)

@Mom- that jaguar was not very happy with you. Too bad my picture of it is so blurry. I'll post it, anyway. :)

And a mango will never taste the same...

It was Brandon, Kennedy and MAYBE me who spat on the crocodiles. :)
